first sockless day / erster sockenfreier Tag

So, finally, spring has arrived! Yesterday I had some colleagues here for cake and coffee, and it was the first afternoon this year we could actually sit outside without a jumper! To celebrate the 20°C mark we hit today I put on nail-polish and went out in sparkling new sandals. And had the last piece of rhubarb-cake in the sun:

Endlich ist der Frühling da! Gestern hatte ich einige Kolleginnen zu Kaffee und Kuchen hier und wir konnten zum ersten Mal ohne Pulli draußen sitzen! Um das Erreichen der 20°C-Marke heute zu feiern habe ich die Zehennägel lackiert und war in meinen neuen Sandalen unterwegs. Und genoss das letzte Stück Rhabarberkuchen im Sonnenschein.

Lotus tunic

This weekend is half-finished Amy-Butler-weekend: Yesterday I worked as much on the messenger bag as I could without matching velcro, which I’m still waiting for. And I opened a flickr-account to participate in U-handblogs Amy Butler bag contest! My entry is the first messenger bag I made for Jens. And today I decided to make the tunic with a fabric bought at last weekends’ market. And of course, as it goes with spontaneous projects, I have no matching zipper and shops are closed on Sundays in Germany. So I did what I could:

Das Thema dieses Wochenendes ist halbfertige Amy-Butler-Projekte. Gestern habe ich soviel an der Kuriertasche fertiggestellt, wie ohne passenden Klettverschluss möglich ist, denn ich warte noch auf Lieferung. Und ich habe mich bei flickr angemeldet, um an u-handblogs Amy-Butler Taschen Wettbewerb teilnehmen zu können. Heute habe ich mich spontan entschieden, die Tunika aus dem Stoff vom Hollandstoffmarkt zu nähen, und, wie’s dann immer so ist, habe ich keinen passenden Reißverschluss im Haus, also habe ich auch hier soviel gemacht, wie’s geht.

Glücksbringer / Lucky charm

Today I went with Sandra to the Koppel 66 Spring Craft Fair, some things were really nice, some not so. Unfortunately last years potter with the beautiful lampshades wasn’t there, but still there was a lot to see. And it was very nice to have a looong chat with Sandra, who is a fellow Dawandian and makes unique jewellery. Before we went for a coffee we bought tickets for the price-draw, and, for the first time ever: I won!!! Whoohoo! A lovely silvery fish-pendant! Must be a lucky charm!

Heute war ich mit Sandra zum Frühlingsmarkt in der Koppel 66, einiges war schön, anderes nicht ganz so. Leider war die Töpferin mit den schönen Lampenschirmen vom letzten Jahr nicht wieder da, aber es gab so auch viel zu sehen. Und es war sehr schön, einen laaangen Plausch mit Sandra zu führen, einer Dawandarianerin die einzigartigen Schmuck macht. Vor der Kaffeepause kauften wir Lose für die Tombola, und, zum allerersten Mal: Ich habe gewonnen! Whoohoo! Einen wirklich schönen, silbrigen Fisch-Anhänger! Das muss ein Glücksbringer sein!

Samstagsfreuden / Saturday’s pleasures

Der heutige Tag stand wie angekündigt ganz im Zeichen des Nähens. Der workshop heute Vormittag hat ganz viel Spaß gemacht und ich habe vieles dazu gelernt: jetzt kann ich minifutzikleine Stoffstückchen noch sinnvoll (?!) verwenden, wenn ich sie auf Papier nähe. Die Häuser und Bäume sind schon so entstanden, wenn ich das Ganze in Heimarbeit noch fertig kriege, zeige ich auch das Resultat. Nachmittags war ich dann auf dem Holländischen Stoffmarkt, die Fülle ist beeindruckend, aber man muss schon sehen, dass man nicht geneppt wird. Unten seht ihr meine Beute. Meine Männer waren während dessen im Stadtpark Minigolf spielen, nachdem sie mich vom Stoffmarkt eingesammelt hatten, sind wir nochmal dorthin, um in der ‘Strandbar’ den Abend einzuläuten. 

Today is all about sewing, the workshop this morning was fun and I’ve learned a lot: now I can usefully (?!) use up the smallest bits and pieces by sewing them onto paper. The houses and trees were made this way, I’ll show the finished result later. In the afternoon I was at the Dutch Clothmarket, the variety is impressing, you can see my pillage in the pics. Meanwhile my ‘men’ were playing minigolf, after collecting me from the market we went to the parks’ beachbar to welcome the evening.

Wochenende / Weekend

Nächstes Wochenende wird vermutlich sehr anregend sein: Morgen treffe ich mich mit Tina, die mir vielleicht ihre geerbte Knopfbeziehmaschine vermachen will, außerdem werde ich ihre Stickmaschine bewundern und das Beste: sie wohnt um die Ecke! Ich kenne Tina durch Dagmar und wusste schon lange, dass sie selbermachmäßig ähnlich tickt, aber ich mag mich nicht gerne in andere Freundschaften hineindrängen, ich bin da zurückhaltend, vielleicht übervorsichtig? Nun, Daggi selber hat das Gespräch auf unser gemeinsames Thema gebracht und den Austausch angeregt, dann ist OK. Samstag werde ich zum ersten Mal einen workshop in dem kleinen aber feinen Handarbeitsgeschäft auch hier in Fußnähe besuchen, ich bin gespannt. Der Laden existiert schon seit Ewigkeiten (also seit bevor wir hier vor 12 Jahren herzogen) direkt an meinen Haupt-Einkaufswegen, aber ich habe ihn immer ignoriert, denn das Fenster war so altbacken stricklieselig dekoriert. Irgendwann im Winter hatten sie aber einen leuchtenden, relativ modernen Quilt im Fenster, so dass ich doch mal stehenblieb, um festzustellen, dass es wohl noch einen Hinterraum mit großer Stoffvielfalt gibt und Quiltkurse angeboten werden. Als ich wieder einen Reißverschluss brauchte und die Zeit knapp war, versuchte ich dort mein Glück zwischen Bank und Aldi und: das Sortiment an EndlosRVs war überwältigend! Der Service kompetent und nett! Jetzt hab’ ich meinen Dealer! Dann ist der große Hollandstoffmarkt in Hamburg, habe ich bisher noch nie erlebt, aber die Dawanda-Damen sind schon alle ganz aufgeregt, also werde ich mir das auch mal ansehen. Und dann ist dieses Wochenende noch Frühjahrsmarkt bei der Koppel 66 auf St. Georg. Das habe ich schon erlebt, und ich will da wieder hin! Letztes Jahr haben wir dort wunderschöne Porzellanlampen gesehen, die nette Töpferin haben wir später in Berlin in ihrem Atelier besucht und dort das Hochzeitsgeschenk für Karin und John gekauft. Vielleicht gehen Jens und ich dort morgen hin, spätestens Sonntag bin ich dort mit Sandra honeyspy verabredet. Hier die Infos: http://www.koppel66.de/

Next weekend will be inspiring, I think: Tomorrow I’ll meet up with Tina, who’ll eventually offer me her machine to cover buttons and I’ll get to see her embroidery-machine at work and the best: she lives right ’round the corner! I met her through Dagmar and though I knew for quite a while that she likes crafting and everything handmade, I was reluctant to get too close to their friendship, I never want to intrude, maybe I’m just oversensitive? Anyway, Daggi herself suggested some kind of cooperation, so I guess that’s OK. On Saturday I’ll go for the first time to a workshop by the small knitting and sewing-shop in my neighbourhood, I’m curious. This shop exists for ages (at least since before we moved here 12 years ago), directly on my main shopping-route, but I never noticed because their window always looked so old-fashioned granny-style. But then in winter they had a stunning, beautiful and quite moder quilt in their window, so I stopped to realize they also had a backroom with lots of cloth and notions, and they offered different quilting-workshops. When I was in a hurry and in need of a zipper I popped in and I was overwhelmed! Such a variety of things one needs for sewing somehow packed in such a small shop! And very competent and friendly staff! I am hooked! Afterwards, on Saturday, there’ll be a big dutch cloth-market in Hamburg. I’ve never been to one before, but the sewing-ladies on Dawanda are all excited, so I’ll check it out, as well. And then there is Spring market at Koppel 66, a craft fair I went to last year. There we saw lovely lampshades made of porcelain, we even went to the potters’ studio in Berlin to buy one as wedding-present for Karin and John. Probably we’ll go there tomorrow, certainly I’ll go there on Sunday to meet Sandra honeyspy. 

Neues im Shop / Shop-news

Bevor die Ferien zu Ende gehen (schnief!), habe ich doch noch schnell die April-Eulen und eine neue Schultertasche fertig gemacht und eingestellt.

The holidays come to an end, but before I managed to make Aprils owls and a new shoulder-bag for the shop.

WIPs

Die letzten Tage habe ich auch ein wenig für den Shop gearbeitet, denn ich hatte zwei Sonderaufträge: ein Satz Ordnerumschläge und Apfel-und-Birne-Sets in groß, nach Vorlage der Untersetzer. So müssen die April-Eulen wohl noch etwas auf Fertigstellung warten, denn auch meine Freundin Dagmar soll am Samstag ihr Geburtstagsgeschenk bekommen…

The last few days I also did something for the shop, two custom orders: a set of covers for folders and two apple-and-pear-sets in big. So April-owls will have to wait a little longer to be finished, because my friend Dagmar is going to have her birthday-present on Saturday…

Nicht nur Küche, auch Kultur… / Not only kitchen, culture as well…

Nicht dass der Eindruck entstünde, mein Leben in den Ferien bestehe aus rein häuslichen Angelegenheiten, nein, Donnerstag war ich mit meiner Freundin Susanne in der Kunsthalle, (OK, danach waren wir in Schuhgeschäften..) wir haben uns die Ausstellung: “Felix Vallotton: Idylle am Abgrund” angesehen. Hmmm…, sehr interessant und anregend, dabei aber befremdlich, rätselhaft und leicht abstoßend, und das war wohl auch Absicht. Sehenswert, aber selten für’s Esszimmer…

Don’t get the impression that my life during holidays only consists of domestic matters, no, on Thursday I went to the Kunsthalle with my friend Susanne, (OK, afterwards we went to the shoe-shops..) we went to see: ‘Felix Valloton: Idyll on the edge’. Interesting and thought-provoking, but strange, unsettling  and slightly repulsive, but that’s what it was supposed to be. Worth seeing, but hardly something for the dining-room…
