Busy bee / Fleißbienchen

Forced to stay at home, speaking as little as possible, I spend some time sewing. Finally  I made a bag with round handles, using up some Bizzkidz-fabric from my stash. I like it  a lot, though I’d do it differently next time, making it bigger and finding ways to avoid so much sewing by hand. And I used up some fabric-swatches, making lots of hanky-holders (now I know how, thanks to Stine). It might be some of the last things a person needs, but making them is rather addictive, I must say. 

Gezwungen zu Hause zu bleiben um möglichst wenig zu sprechen, habe ich meine Zeit mit Nähen verbracht. Ich habe endlich die Tasche mit den runden Griffen genäht und dafür einen Bizzkidz-Stoffrest benutzt. Ich finde sie schön, auch wenn ich sie beim nächsten Mal größer machen würde und versuchen würde, das Handnähen zu vermeiden. Und ich habe einige Stoffreste aufgebraucht, indem ich ganz viele TaTüTas genäht habe ( wo ich doch jetzt dank Stine weiß wie’s geht). Sie sind vielleicht das Letzte, was ein Mensch braucht, aber sie zu machen hat einen ziemlichen Suchtfaktor.

Cherry Lady

My favourite bôule for café au lait was the source of inspiration for these coasters, mentioned in the Zakka-post earlier. I rubber-stamped the cherries on cotton and combined it with fabric from Ikea and Lecien. I do like cherries… (though I hated having that rather stupid 80ies-tune on my mind while sewing). 

Meine Lieblings-Milchkaffeeschale war die Inspirationsquelle für diese Untersetzer, wie schon im Zakka-post gezeigt. Die Kirschen sind mit Radiergummistempeln auf Baumwolle gedruckt, das Ganze mit Stoff von Ikea und Lecien kombiniert. Ich mag Kirschen… ( auch wenn ich beim Nähen diese schreckliche 80er-Melodie im Ohr hatte).

Zakka!!

No, this is not an unusual outburst of football (soccer-) enthusianism, it is the title of a lovely booklet send to me by Stine. It is a about something Wikipedia explains as: “The term refers to everything and anything that improves your home, life and outlook.(…) Zakka has also been described as “the art of seeing the savvy in the ordinary and mundane”.” In that respect there’s a lot of Zakka around here… and I like that!

Well, after receiving this lovely parcel I relaxed in the garden, with my favourite boule of cappuccino, the freshly baked biscotti, a matching coaster (more about it in another post) and, of course, the Zakka-book! Thank you so much, Stine, it is wonderful to have generous friends who understand my slightly excessive craving for domestic perfection;-)) And there was more in that parcel: a hanky-cover, a lovely ribbon-border and lots of stamps for Marcel’s collection. Thank you!

Nein, das ist kein ungewöhnlicher Ausbruch von Fußballfieber, das ist der Titel eines Büchleins, das ich von Stine geschickt bekommen habe. Es ist das japanische Wort für etwas, was von Wikipedia so erklärt wird: “Der Ausdruck beschreibt alles, was dein Zuhause bereichert, dein Leben und deine Perspektive.(…) Zakka wurde auch als “die Kunst, das coole im Gewöhnlichen und Banalen zusehen” beschrieben. In dieser Hinsicht gibt’s hier viel Zakka.. und ich mag’s!

Na, nachdem ich dieses tolle Päckchen erhalten hatte, habe ich mich im Garten entspannt, mit meiner Lieblingsschale Cappuccino, den frischgebackenen Cantuccini, einem passenden Untersetzer (mehr dazu in einem anderen post) und natürlich dem Zakka-Buch! Ganz herzlichen Dank, Stine, es ist einfach wunderbar, großzügige Freunde zu haben, die meinen leicht manischen Drang zu häuslicher Perfektion verstehen;-)) Und es war noch mehr im Päckchen: ein TaTüTa (Taschentüchertasche), eine schöne Bordüre und viele Briefmarken für Marcels Sammlung. Dickes Danke!

Frenchy Bag

Today I made the Frenchy Handbag by Amy Butler, using Ikea-fabrics and a dishtowel-cloth. Because I didn’t have a magnetic snap I used one of the many almost ancient press-buttons I inherited from my grandma. I really like the result, and it was the first Amy Butler pattern that didn’t take ages to complete. I’m not very patient when it comes to crafting, I’m all in for instant gratification, that’s why I like sewing and printing and not knitting or crocheting. So, dear female friends and family: prepare yourselves for yummy little handbags made from this pattern!

Heute habe ich die Frenchy Handtasche vom Amy Butler-Schnitt gemacht, ich habe Ikeastoffe und einen Handtuchstoff dafür benutzt. Weil ich keinen Magnetverschluss hatte, habe ich einen der uralten von Omi geerbten Drucknöpfe verwendet. Mir gefällt das Ergebnis und es war der erste von mir benutzte Amy Butler-Schnitt, der nicht Ewigkeiten zur Fertigstellung brauchte. Ich bin nicht besonders geduldig wenn’s um’s Selbermachen geht, ich brauche schnelle Erfolgserlebnisse, deshalb nähe und drucke ich gern im Gegensatz zum stricken oder häkeln. Also, liebe Freundinnen und Verwandte: stellt euch dieses Jahr auf solche schnuckeligen Handtaschen ein!

Bag Projects / Taschenprojekte

The next days I’m going to try some bag patterns, Amy Butler’s Frenchy Handbag and a bag with round bamboo-handles I don’t have a pattern for, but I’ll make one up, shouldn’t be too diffcult. I just like those round handles and couldn’t resist buying them. 

In nächster Zeit möchte ich neue Taschenschnitte ausprobieren: Amy Butlers Frenchy Bag und eine Tasche mit runden Bambusgriffen. Dafür habe ich kein Schnittmuster, aber ich werde mir eins ausdenken, sollte nicht zu schwierig sein. Ich mag die Griffe einfach und konnte beim Kauf nicht widerstehen.

Jeans refashion for summer / Sommerjeans

Thursday morning the SRP arrived, a huge parcel with a fabric and cloths-swap of some Dawandarians who are into sewing (more about it in another post, when Stine  is here next week). Lovely and generous Petra of ranipink had put a lot of colour- and beautiful fabrics in it, Saris and other oriental swatches and a georgeous ribbon, which I have used to refashion an old jeans for summer. Now I have something summery to wear with my tunics. Thank you so much, Petra!

Am Donnerstag morgen kam das SRP (StoffresteReisePaket), ein Stofftauschring nähender Dawanderianerinnen (mehr dazu, wenn Stine nächste Woche da ist). Die ausgesprochen sympathische und großzügige Petra von ranipink hatte eine sehr bunte und wunderhübsche Mischung von Saris und anderen orientalischen Stoffresten hineingepackt und auch eine sehr schöne Borte, die ich für eine Sommer-Jeans-Aufwertung benutzt habe. Jetzt habe ich etwas sommerliches zu meinen Tuniken zu tragen. Ganz herzlichen Dank, Petra!

Breakfast Open-Air / Freiluft-Frühstück

This Saturday was the first first time this year to have breakfast outside. We enjoy not only the sun but also the new garden-table and chairs which I gave Jens on Wednesday as a birthday-present. I made the covers for the cushions on the chairs with Frederica-fabric from Ikea. Since then we spent every evening outside, barbequeing and chatting with the neighbours. And we went to an evening out to a BBQ with a professional cook (creativ-küchen). This was his other present, and we enjoyed it very much, lots of nice people and interesting new recipies.

Diesen Samstag haben wir zum ersten Mal im Jahr draußen gefrühstückt. Wir freuen uns nicht nur über die Sonne sondern auch über die neuen Gartenmöbel, die ich Jens am Mittwoch zum Geburtstag geschenkt habe. Die Kissenbezüge habe ich aus Frederica-Stoff von Ikea genäht. Seither sitzen wir jeden Abend draußen, grillen und mit den Nachbarn quatschen. Und wir waren auf einem Kochabend mit einem Profikoch (Since then we spent every evening outside, barbequeing and chatting with the neighbours. And we went to an evening out to a BBQ with a professional cook (creativ-küchen). Das war sein anderes Geschenk, und wir hatten viel Spaß, nette Leute und interessante neue Rezepte. 

Buttons / Knöpfe

Last weekend I decided not to sell simply fabric-covered buttons, because it is absolutely not challenging on the creative or technical side. Instead I chose to combine my two new crafts and make buttons covered with rubber-stamped fabric. I’ll give some of them away in Dawanda’s Promo-bags (Daria-86) and sell sets of six.

 

Letztes Wochenende entschloss ich mich, doch keine schlicht mit Stoff bezogenen Knöpfe zu verkaufen, weil das einfach weder besonders kreativ noch handwerklich herausfordernd ist. Statt dessen verbinde ich lieber meine beiden neuen Leidenschaften und mache Knöpfe mit selbst bedruckten Stoffen. Einige davon werde ich in die Dawanda Promo-bags (Daria-86) geben und Sets von sechs Stück verkaufen.
